The grind of Lil Wayne is endless with another project under his belt. This time the Cash Money CEO tackles the Rap/Rock sound as he introduces his new group Bad Ass Grasshoppers or simply B.A.G. B.A.G. caters to Rap/R&B and also Rock and features artists from Wayne’s Young Money label.
The mixtape kicks off with a formal introduction naming numerous artists that hold down the Young Money venture. Wayne’s introduction to B.A.G. will not prepare you for the head aching Rock and Rap mash up. For a mixtape that is supposedly introducing Lil Wayne’s group he’s all over the mixtape more than the group.
“Phase” featuring the ladies of Danity Kane is a solid single you can rock to in the clubs and bump in your trucks. The features throughout the B.A.G. (The Introduction) mixtape helps you bare with the repetitive robotic sounds Wayne uses on each track. “Stand Tall” is a solidified club banger as he spits about the occasional money and hoes.
Mr. Carter recycles other artist’s lyrics on “Prostitute Flange” and “Navigation Man” but adds his Lil Wayne-esque swag to it that makes it seem hotter than what it really is. “Smoke Session” is a conceptual storyline about a female leaving her man and finally features a few artists from Wayne’s Young Money imprint.
On the last track Beyonce’s little sister Solange lends her vocals on the soulful “Champaign Chronic Nightcap”. Solange exudes sexiness throughout the five-minute song as she and Wayne speak of blowing good weed.
Lil Wayne and B.A.G. was far from an introduction and more like a Lil’ Wayne mixtape if anything. The Cash Money representative falls short with this effort but I’m sure fans will appreciate his grind. Words of advice, next time don’t outshine your own artists on a mixtape you’re introducing them on. Wayne, step out the limelight for a sec and let your artists prove themselves.
